Akwa Ibom Teachers Protest Against Oyo Abductions

Teachers from Akwa Ibom State participated in a nationwide protest organized by the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) in response to the abduction of schoolchildren and educators in Oyo State. The protest aimed to draw attention to the increasing threats faced by teachers and learners across the country.

Comrade Edet Emenyi, the state chairman of NUT, condemned the abductions and emphasized the need for the government to address insecurity and improve the welfare of teachers. During the protest, teachers marched along Wellington Bassey Street, displaying placards with messages such as "Attack on teachers is an attack on education" and "Protect teachers, protect the future." Emenyi expressed regret that schools, which should be centers of learning, have become targets of violence and criminal activities.

He highlighted the fear teachers experience while performing their duties due to insecurity, stating that education cannot thrive in a terror-filled environment.
