Oyo Governor Makinde Addresses School Abduction Accusations

On Friday, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State revealed that he faced accusations of orchestrating the Oriire school abduction. To counter these allegations, he announced the establishment of a Judicial Commission of Inquiry during its inauguration at the Executive Council Chamber in Ibadan.

The commission is tasked with investigating the circumstances surrounding the abduction of students and teachers in the Esiele and Yawata communities of Oriire Local Government Area, which occurred on May 15, 2026. Makinde emphasized that the abduction was not just an attack on the local communities but on the rights of every Nigerian child to learn safely.

He expressed gratitude for the victims' safe return but stressed that the focus must now be on accountability and reform to restore public confidence and prevent future occurrences. He stated, “Truth brings closure,” highlighting the importance of learning from such incidents to ensure the safety of children.
