Teacher Reveals Details of 56-Day Kidnapping Ordeal

Mr. Olatund Olutuy Zaccheau, a school counselor, was among those abducted during an attack on a secondary school in Ori-Ir Local Government Area, Oyo State. The incident occurred when gunmen stormed the school, leading to a chaotic situation where students attempted to escape.

Zaccheau, who suffers from arthritis, faced difficulties in fleeing and encouraged students to hide in vegetation. After 56 days in captivity, he recounted that the kidnappers restricted certain religious practices and that his health deteriorated during this time.

The behavior of the abductors changed as the release approached, with Zaccheau noting that they appeared cheerful. On the day of their release, he and other victims were freed without handcuffs, and they had to trek for hours to reach safety.

Zaccheau acknowledged the efforts of the Oyo State government during the crisis but expressed ongoing concerns about security in the area.
