Afenifere Condemns Rising Insecurity in Yorubaland

Afenifere, a Yoruba socio-political group, has expressed grave concern over the rising insecurity in Yorubaland, particularly following a recent abduction incident in Oyo State. On Friday, gunmen attacked several schools, resulting in the death of a staff member and the abduction of students.

The Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, visited the affected communities on Saturday to express condolences and concern. Afenifere leader Reuben Fasoranti lamented the growing fear of terrorism in the region and called for immediate action to prevent further violence.

The statement highlighted various recent incidents, including the abduction of three family members in Ogun State and attacks on churches in Ekiti State. Despite the establishment of the Amotekun security network by South West governors in January 2020, Afenifere noted that recent actions have not adequately addressed the security challenges faced by the region.
