Afenifere Declares Yorubaland Under Siege Amid Attacks

Afenifere, a pan-Yoruba socio-political organization, expressed grave concern over the recent attacks in Oyo State, declaring that Yorubaland is under siege. Pa Reuben Fasoranti, the leader of Afenifere, released a statement lamenting the incidents that occurred on May 15, marking a troubling trend of violence in the region.

The attacks included a motorcycle assault on three schools in Oriir Local Government Area. Fasoranti sympathized with the victims' families and called for immediate action to combat the escalating insecurity threatening lives in the country.

He cited various recent incidents, including the abduction of three family members in Ogun State and a church attack in Ekiti State that resulted in fatalities and kidnappings. The statement underscored the urgent need for enhanced security measures, particularly following the establishment of the South West security network, Amotekun, in January 2020.

Afenifere commended the swift response of the Inspector General of Police, Tunji Disu, to the recent kidnappings and expressed hope that new initiatives would help curb crime in the region.
