Oyo State Backs Itansan Art Festival for Yoruba Heritage

The Oyo State Government has expressed its readiness to support the Itansan Art Festival, an initiative aimed at promoting Yoruba cultural heritage, particularly among young people. This commitment was articulated in a statement issued on Friday by Wasiu Olatubosun, the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism.

Olatubosun praised the festival as a laudable effort to celebrate and preserve the rich traditions of the Yoruba people. He emphasized the importance of cultural festivals in promoting identity and tourism, particularly among the youth, who are gradually distancing themselves from traditional practices.

The festival, scheduled for May, will feature inter-school competitions among secondary school students, showcasing Yoruba deities through visual arts, writing, and oratory. Additionally, a book titled "Emissary of God" will be launched during the event to highlight Yoruba ancestral cultural heroes.

Olatubosun assured the festival organizers of the ministry's support, including an endorsement letter and assistance from relevant government agencies to ensure the event's success.
