Oyo State Expands Bursary Scheme for Final-Year Students

The Federation of Oyo State Students’ Unions (FOSSU) announced the expansion of the final-year bursary scheme to include 5,000 beneficiaries from public tertiary institutions across Nigeria. FOSSU National President Ahmed Mufutau stated that final-year students encounter significant financial burdens related to graduation.

Under the 2026 scheme, final-year Clinical, Aeronautics, and Aviation students will receive 500,000 naira each; university undergraduates will receive 200,000 naira; Higher National Diploma students will get 150,000 naira; and final-year National Certificate in Education students will receive 100,000 naira. Mufutau emphasized the importance of including Colleges of Education students and noted that Oyo indigenes at the Nigerian Law School have benefited from 500,000 naira annually for six years.

Eligible students are advised to prepare their documents for the bursary portal opening on October 12, with registration closing on November 1. FOSSU also expressed support for Governor Seyi Makinde’s presidential ambition ahead of the 2027 General Election, citing his administration's achievements in education and student welfare.
