Oyo State Launches 2026 Farming Season with Subsidies

Oyo State has officially launched the 2026 farming season, promoting climate-smart agricultural practices. The flag-off event took place at the Local Government Staff Hall in the Oyo State Secretariat, Ibadan, led by Olasunkanmi Olaley, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development.

The initiative is supported by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency, which provided seasonal climate predictions to assist farmers in planning their activities effectively. A significant aspect of the program is a 50% subsidy on tractors, aimed at making mechanized farming more accessible and affordable, with the program set to commence in 2024.

This initiative is expected to enhance productivity by reducing labor costs and improving planting schedules. Peter Ojedokun, the Chairman of the Oyo State House Assembly Committee on Agriculture, commended Governor Seyi Makinde's proactive approach to agricultural development.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Abosed Owoey, highlighted the importance of the convergence of the farming season flag-off and the tractor subsidy program, reaffirming the government's commitment to transforming agriculture in Oyo State.
