Oyo State Launches Cultural Anthem to Honor Yoruba Heritage

The Oyo State Government has introduced a new cultural anthem aimed at promoting and preserving Yoruba heritage. This announcement was made by the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr Wasiu Olatunbosun, during the third symposium for the World Sango Festival and Duro Ladipo Memorial Symposium held at the Cultural Centre in Ibadan.

Dr Olatunbosun stated that both audio and video versions of the anthem have been completed, fulfilling a prior commitment made during the Isese celebration. The anthem will be played immediately after the state anthem at all cultural and Isese-related events in Oyo State.

This initiative is part of the government's efforts to strengthen the preservation of Yoruba culture and connect younger generations to their roots. Additionally, Dr Olatunbosun suggested converting the residence of the late cultural icon Duro Ladipo into a monument or museum to honor his contributions to Yoruba and African culture.

Dr Fayemi Ifakayode emphasized the distinction between the spiritual Sango and the historical Alaafin of Oyo, while Prince Tunde Odunlade also contributed to the discussions.
