Oyo State Pays N18bn Monthly in Workers' Salaries

On Thursday, Oyo State Commissioner Prince Dotun Oyelade revealed that the state government is currently disbursing N18 billion monthly in salaries to its workforce. This figure represents an 800% increase compared to the baseline established in 2019.

Oyelade made this announcement during a visit to the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) secretariat in Ibadan, coinciding with the 2027 Workers' Day celebration. He highlighted that Governor Seyi Makinde had pledged to ensure prompt salary payments by the 25th of every month, a promise that has been met consistently over the past 84 months.

The administration has also introduced a 13th-month salary and increased workers' salaries three times, despite a significant expansion of the workforce due to unprecedented recruitment policies. Currently, Oyo State employs approximately 130,000 government workers, making it the largest workforce in the South West, South East, and South South regions.

The state's Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) stands at N103 billion monthly, which supports extensive infrastructure development aimed at improving citizen welfare.
