Oyo Governor Makinde Launches Violent Crime Response Unit

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde declared that the school abduction incident in Orir Local Government Area on a recent Friday exposed major gaps in intelligence gathering and sharing. During the inauguration of the newly established Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) at the Nigeria Police Force headquarters in Ibadan, he emphasized the need for residents to report suspicious movements and behaviors to aid security efforts.

Preliminary findings indicated that suspicious activities were not reported promptly, undermining preventive measures. Makinde described the establishment of the VCRU as a strategic response to rising cases of kidnapping and violent crime, particularly in light of recent security challenges in Oyo State.

He noted that the VCRU is the first of its kind in the South West region and represents a renewed commitment to strengthening security architecture. The governor assured that the state government would continue to support law enforcement agencies in protecting lives and property.
