Oyo State Takes Delivery of Two Surveillance Aircraft for Security Operations

Two surveillance aircraft have arrived at Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport in Ibadan, fulfilling Oyo State's security modernization objectives. The delivery took place on Tuesday, roughly one year after Governor Seyi Makinde first announced intentions to procure these platforms for enhanced operational capacity across the state.

Makinde's rationale for acquiring the aircraft centered on monitoring the state's considerable territorial expanse through improved aerial means. Officials noted that these platforms would complement existing ground-based security forces, thereby strengthening both intelligence collection and surveillance operations.

The Information Commissioner confirmed that delivery honors a prior pledge to have the systems ready by late July. Multiple security organizations are slated to benefit from the aircraft's deployment in combating criminal threats.

According to state authorities, the platforms will facilitate efforts against kidnapping, banditry, and associated crimes. Partnership with the Nigerian Air Force will govern operational protocols, per statements made during the handover ceremony.

The delivery garnered approval from notable political voices, including Ambassador Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo, a senatorial aspirant from the opposition, who characterized the step as demonstrating resolve in managing the insecurity affecting Oyo. The newly enhanced tarmac facility at the Ibadan airport served as the venue for the official reception ceremony.
