CAN Urges Action Against Terrorism in Oyo State Schools

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) expressed deep concern over a recent terrorist attack in Oriir Local Government Area, Oyo State, where armed criminals abducted schoolchildren and teachers. In a statement signed by Archbishop Daniel Okoh, CAN condemned the attack as barbaric and highlighted the failure of the Nigerian government to ensure the safety of children in schools.

The association criticized the routine condolences offered by the government without tangible action, stating that Nigerian children can no longer attend school without fear of kidnapping. The statement called for the federal government and security agencies to move beyond mere statements and take immediate, coordinated action to secure schools and release abducted victims.

CAN urged the government to dismantle the networks of armed criminal groups that have normalized terror across the country, particularly in rural communities. The association emphasized the need for a decisive response to protect innocent lives and restore public confidence in safety.
