CAN Directs Oyo Churches to Suspend Late-Night Activities

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has issued a directive to its members in Oyo State, instructing them to suspend late-night activities across 33 local government areas amid rising insecurity. This decision follows a recent incident involving the abduction of 47 teachers and students in the Oriire local government area.

The directive, signed by CAN Chairman Rev. Elisha Ogundiya and Secretary Rev. Samuel Owolabi, emphasizes the need for churches to adopt proactive security measures to protect worshippers and church properties. Recommendations include deploying trained security personnel, installing modern surveillance equipment, and conducting thorough background checks on security staff.

The association has also urged churches to intensify prayers for the safe release of abducted individuals and to limit late-night activities to mitigate risks. Additionally, CAN has called on the public to exercise caution and comply with the state government's order prohibiting commercial motorcycles from operating after 10:30 p.m.
