CAN Urges Leaders to Address Nigeria's Economic Hardship

On Palm Sunday, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), under the leadership of President Archbishop Daniel Okoh, called on political leaders across the country to take decisive actions to alleviate the economic hardships currently affecting Nigerians. In a statement marking Palm Sunday, Okoh highlighted the significance of the day as a lesson in leadership, particularly during times of economic strain and global uncertainty.

He drew parallels between the biblical account of Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem and the current socio-economic challenges, urging leaders to demonstrate qualities of humility and peace rather than power. Okoh noted the rising cost of living, which is impacting countless families, and linked domestic economic challenges to global developments, including tensions involving Iran, Israel, and the United States, which have disrupted energy markets.

He warned that these pressures are intensifying the hardships faced by ordinary citizens and emphasized the need for leaders to restore public confidence and provide reassurance during these uncertain times.
