CAN Urges Leaders to Address Economic Hardship on Palm Sunday

On Palm Sunday, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), through its president, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, called on political leaders to take urgent steps to alleviate the economic hardships faced by Nigerians. In a statement issued on Sunday, Okoh highlighted the significance of Palm Sunday as a moment for reflection on leadership qualities, particularly during times of economic strain and global uncertainty.

He drew parallels between the biblical account of Jesus' entry into Jerusalem and the current socio-economic realities in Nigeria, emphasizing the need for leaders to display humility and peace rather than power. Okoh noted the rising cost of living and the pressures on ordinary citizens due to domestic economic challenges and global developments, including tensions affecting energy markets.

He urged leaders to restore public confidence and adopt a governance style rooted in empathy and commitment to the common good.
