CAN Urges Empathetic Leadership Amid Economic Hardship

On Palm Sunday, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), under the leadership of Archbishop Daniel Okoh, issued a statement addressing the significant economic hardships faced by Nigerians. Okoh drew parallels between the biblical account of Jesus' entry into Jerusalem and the current socio-economic climate, urging leaders to exhibit humility and peace rather than power.

He highlighted the rising cost of living and the pressures on ordinary citizens due to global economic tensions, particularly those involving Iran, Israel, and the United States, which have disrupted energy markets. Okoh called for leaders to restore public confidence and provide stability, emphasizing the importance of empathetic governance.

He also encouraged citizens to remain united and hopeful despite the challenges, reminding them of the spirit of Palm Sunday as a time for collective purpose and resilience. The statement coincided with celebrations in Ilorin, Kwara State, where thousands of Christians participated in worship and processions.
