Two Dead in Anambra Truck Collision on Expressway

A tragic road accident occurred late Thursday night on the Awka-Enugu Expressway in Anambra State, resulting in the deaths of two male adults and injuries to two others. The crash, which took place around 11:47 PM, involved two commercial vehicles: a Mercedes 911 truck and a Mark Tanker truck belonging to Shafa Energy, both lacking registration numbers.
Eyewitnesses reported that the driver of the first truck, traveling at high speed, suddenly applied the brakes, leading to a rear-end collision with the tanker truck. This impact caused significant damage and resulted in a fire and explosion.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed the incident through Sector Public Education Officer Margaret Onabe, who stated that the injured were taken to Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu Teaching Hospital by good Samaritans. The FRSC rescue team arrived within 10 minutes to manage traffic and assist.
Sector Commander Bridget Asekhauno urged motorists to adhere to speed limits, especially in construction zones, and called for expedited road construction to improve safety.
