Nigeria Cracks Down on Fake Certificates with NCVS Verification Directive

The issue of fake academic certificates in Nigeria has been highlighted as a significant problem, with many individuals using fraudulent credentials to secure positions in government and public offices. The lack of a reliable database to verify these documents has allowed this practice to persist for over 26 years of civil rule.

A recent directive by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, mandates the use of the National Credential Verification Service (NCVS) to authenticate academic records. The Federal Executive Council approved the establishment of the Nigeria Education Repository Databank (NERD) to centralize educational records and prevent the circulation of fake certificates.

This move aims to enhance transparency and credibility in the country's educational and professional sectors.
