Passengers Face Chaos on Abuja-Kaduna Train Journey

Passengers traveling on the Abuja-Kaduna rail corridor reported a harrowing experience characterized by overcrowding, ticketing difficulties, and mechanical failures. Mr. Solomon Abiona described his ordeal, which began four days prior when he attempted to purchase five tickets for a journey to a ceremony in Kaduna.

He faced challenges securing tickets online due to the Nigerian Railway Corporation's (NRC) website being down and found that tickets were sold at inflated prices. Onboard, passengers were instructed to occupy seats not assigned to them, leading to chaos as individuals searched for their designated spots.

Ibrahim Bulu noted that the situation was exacerbated by a high influx of travelers and a reduction in daily train services. Chief John Fabunmi expressed disappointment over the service, highlighting mechanical issues where attendants poured water over the engine to cool it down.

Mr. Wusi Lawrenc criticized the rail service's standards, comparing it unfavorably to older systems and expressing concern over safety and efficiency.
