Pat Utomi Reflects on Surviving Fatal Accident 35 Years Ago

Prof Pat Utomi, a political economist and former presidential candidate, shared his experience of surviving a fatal accident that occurred 35 years ago near Asaba. After the accident, he was taken to Boromeo Hospital in Onitsha, where doctors reportedly declared that he had no pulse or breathing.

Despite this grim assessment, the Chief of Surgery refused to give up on him, insisting on continuing efforts to save his life. Eventually, the medical team discovered he was alive and proceeded with surgery to address the internal bleeding caused by the accident, which had already claimed the life of his driver.

This life-altering experience has made July a month of thanksgiving for Utomi's family. He also reflected on a later close encounter with death during the July 7, 2005, terrorist attacks on London’s transport system, which reinforced his faith and gratitude to God.
