Sowore Condemns Alleged Assassination Plot Against Activist

Omoyele Sowore, a prominent activist politician, responded to the alleged assassination plot against fellow activist Harrison Ofoegbu, asserting that it reflects a troubling pattern of targeted intimidation aimed at silencing dissent in Nigeria. Sowore characterized the claim as not an isolated incident but part of a sustained effort to suppress criticism and maintain oppression.

He noted that the actions against Ofoegbu are neither random nor accidental, recalling their first meeting at the Federal High Court in Abuja during a trial that heightened tensions. Sowore highlighted Ofoegbu's previous experiences with arrest and detention under strict bail conditions, which he believes endangered Ofoegbu's life.

Sowore himself has survived multiple assassination attempts, including a reference to the 2021 killing of his brother, Felix Olajide Sowore. He stated that threats against activists date back to his days as a student activist in the 1990s, emphasizing that the recent revelations about Ofoegbu should not be dismissed as mere outbursts.
