SSANU, NASU Demand Withdrawal of 30% Salary Increase Letter

The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) have formally addressed a letter to the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, expressing their strong opposition to a letter circulating on social media that allegedly approves a 30% salary increase for non-teaching staff.

This letter, signed by Dr. Alausa on March 30, 2026, is viewed by the unions as an arbitrary decision that undermines ongoing negotiations and violates established labor processes.

The unions, represented by Peter Adeyemi and Comrade Moham Ibrahim, demand the immediate withdrawal of the letter to prevent confusion within the university system. They reaffirm their earlier ultimatum given to the government on March 27, which requires a conclusion to negotiations regarding a long-standing 2009 agreement by April 30, 2026.

Failure to meet this deadline could lead to serious consequences, including disruptions in the academic sector, which is already facing challenges such as funding shortages and strikes.
