SSANU Threatens Indefinite Strike Over Salary Increment

The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) has announced plans for an indefinite strike in response to the Federal Government's recent approval of a 30% salary increment for non-academic staff in federal universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education. SSANU argues that this increment, aimed at addressing long-standing labor issues in the education sector, does not align with the outcomes of ongoing negotiations.

During a special meeting of its national executive council in Abuja, SSANU expressed dissatisfaction with the government's approach, stating that discussions have not been completed and that the reported agreement is incorrect. The union has emphasized the need for fair and proper engagement in the negotiation process.

SSANU has set a deadline of April 30, 2026, for the government to conclude talks and sign an agreement, warning that failure to meet this deadline will lead to an indefinite strike. The union has advised its members to remain alert and await further instructions.
