FG to Meet SSANU, NASU Over Salary Dispute on April 29

On April 29, 2026, the Federal Government will convene a meeting with the leadership of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) to discuss a contentious pay dispute. This meeting follows a threat of a nationwide strike due to an ongoing disagreement over a proposed 30% salary increase for non-academic staff.

The unions have expressed shock and rejection of a letter allegedly signed by Dr. Tunji Alausa, the Minister of Education, which they claim unilaterally approved the salary increment without proper negotiations. Peter Adeyemi, the Secretary General of the Joint Action Committee (JAC), and Comrade Moham Ibrahim, the President, have emphasized that the unions will not accept any decisions made outside of established bargaining processes.

They demand the immediate withdrawal of the controversial letter to prevent further confusion within the university system, asserting their commitment to ongoing negotiations.
