PCN Seals 131 Drug Outlets in Nasarawa for Violations

The Pharmaceutical Council of Nigeria (PCN) sealed 131 pharmaceutical premises in Nasarawa State due to violations of regulatory standards. This action was announced by Dr.

Suleiman Chiroma during a press conference held in Karu Local Government Area on April 1, 2026, following a three-day enforcement exercise conducted from March 30 to April 1, 2026. The inspections covered 272 premises, including 35 wholesalers, 86 community pharmacies, and 118 patent medicine stores.

The PCN discovered substantial non-compliance, including the failure to produce licensing evidence and operating unlicensed premises. Notably, 70% of the affected premises were in Karu LGA, with many registered pharmacists absent during inspections, compromising the quality of pharmaceutical care.

Additionally, 61% of community pharmacies failed to display mandatory licenses. The PCN emphasized its commitment to stringent surveillance to ensure safe and effective medicine distribution and advised the public to procure medicines only from inspected and licensed outlets.
