PCN Seals 572 Drug Stores in Plateau for Violations

The Pharmaceutical Council of Nigeria (PCN) conducted an enforcement exercise in Plateau State, sealing 572 drug stores for various regulatory violations. Dr.
Suleiman S. Chiroma, speaking on behalf of the PCN's Registrar and CEO Ibrahim Babashehu Ahm, announced the crackdown during a press conference on Friday.
The operation, which lasted four days, involved inspecting 778 premises, including 199 pharmacies and 499 patent medicine stores. The violations included unauthorized clinic practices, illegal storage of medicines, and unqualified outlets.
Of the sealed premises, 120 were pharmacies, 372 were patent medicine stores, and 80 were illegal outlets. The PCN aims to enforce the National Drug Distribution Guidelines (NDDG) to address Nigeria's chaotic drug distribution system.
Dr. Chiroma expressed concern over the poor compliance among registered pharmacies, with only 40% meeting standards.
The PCN remains committed to safeguarding the integrity of pharmaceutical practices in the state.
