PDP Chieftain Dr. Gbenga Hashim Resigns Amid Crisis

Dr. Gbenga Hashim, a chieftain of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), formally resigned from the party on April 4, 2026.

In his resignation letter addressed to the chairman of the PDP Usuma Ward in Bwari Area Council, Abuja, he highlighted the ongoing crises that have plagued the party for years, leading to the emergence of two dominant factions. Despite numerous reconciliation efforts, Hashim noted that these attempts had not yielded the desired results.

He emphasized that the current crisis has weakened the PDP's viability as an opposition party, potentially hindering its ability to field credible candidates for the 2027 elections. Hashim expressed his discontent with the party's tacit support for the incumbent administration, which he believes undermines democratic values.

He also pointed out the severe challenges Nigeria faces, including widespread insecurity, economic distress, and rising poverty. Hashim concluded by expressing gratitude for the support he received from party members and stakeholders.
