Dr. Gbenga Hashim Resigns from PDP Amid Crisis

Dr. Gbenga Hashim, a chieftain of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), formally resigned from the party on April 4, 2026, addressing his letter to the chairman of the Usuma Ward in the Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

In his resignation letter, Hashim highlighted the persistent internal crises that have plagued the PDP for years, leading to the formation of factions within the party. Despite numerous reconciliation efforts aimed at bridging divisions and restoring unity, he expressed regret that these attempts have not yielded the desired results.

Hashim criticized the current leadership for actions that he believes undermine democratic values and weaken the party's viability as an opposition force, suggesting that the leadership's conduct may prevent the PDP from fielding credible candidates in the upcoming 2027 elections. He emphasized the severe challenges facing Nigeria, including widespread insecurity and economic distress, and stated that he could not, in good conscience, remain complicit in actions that betray the principles of the party and the Nigerian people.
