PDP Chieftain Urges Full Implementation of Supreme Court Ruling on Local Government Autonomy

Former Minister of Power and Steel, Elder Wole Oyelese, called for the full implementation of the Supreme Court ruling on local government autonomy in Nigeria. He urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to ensure the judgment is enforced to empower grassroots development.

The Supreme Court's decision mandates the direct disbursement of funds to the 774 local councils from the Federation Account, prohibiting caretaker committees. Elder Oyelese emphasized that local government autonomy is crucial for democracy and citizen confidence, as it allows for democratically elected councils to govern effectively and be accountable to the people.
