Local Governments Should Be Handed To Traditional Rulers – Adamu Garba

Adamu Garba, a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has suggested that local governments in Nigeria should be handed over to traditional rulers. In a statement posted on his social media handle, Garba argued that local governments have become mere "Automated Teller Machines" for state governors, making it impossible to implement the Supreme Court ruling granting autonomy to local government councils.

He criticized the current system of government in Nigeria as unworkable and suggested that traditional rulers are better equipped to manage local affairs. Garba emphasized the need to decentralize authority to the grassroots level for more effective governance.

This proposal comes amidst ongoing debates about restructuring Nigeria's governance system.
