PDP Confirms Presidential Ticket After INEC Publishes 2027 Candidates

The Peoples Democratic Party has confirmed its participation in the 2027 general elections following the Independent National Electoral Commission's publication of the party's presidential and National Assembly candidates. Senator Professor Sandy Ojang Onor has been listed as the PDP's presidential flagbearer, with Alhaji Babangida Umar named as his running mate.

Party officials described the INEC release as settling months of uncertainty surrounding whether the PDP would successfully field a complete slate of candidates. The National Working Committee and party spokesperson Jungudo Haruna Mohammed stated that the publication dispelled doubts and counter-narratives that had circulated about the party's readiness to contest the elections.

The party's leadership, aligned with Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike, used the occasion to extend reconciliation overtures to other party factions, including the Kabiru Tanimu Turaki-led group and other members dissatisfied with internal party processes. Party officials expressed gratitude to supporters and emphasised the need for unity as the party prepares for the 2027 polls.

The PDP characterised the INEC action as ending what it termed sustained misinformation and propaganda. Party statements indicated the candidate list publication represented a decisive moment for the party, shifting focus from internal disputes to electoral preparation and campaign activities.
