PDP Convention Set Amid Leadership Crisis and Boycotts

The People's Democratic Party (PDP) is preparing for its national convention scheduled for March 29 in Abuja, amidst significant internal strife. Nyesom Wike, a minister and faction leader, has warned state chairmen against attending the convention, labeling it illegal due to pending Supreme Court cases.

Some state chapters, including Sokoto, have announced a boycott, while others like Kwara and Kebbi confirmed their participation. Alhaji Isa Bawa, Kwara's state chairman, noted that their decision followed extensive deliberations on the party's leadership crisis.

Kebbi's state chairman, Abubakar Kalgo, stated their participation was unanimous, emphasizing their commitment to the party despite internal disagreements. The convention is expected to involve around 2,500 delegates, with the PDP aiming to affirm its leadership structure and strategize for the upcoming 2027 general elections.

The ongoing disputes within the party reflect broader challenges in accommodating diverse factions and perspectives.
