PDP Crisis Deepens as Governors Reject Wike's Candidates

The internal crisis within the People's Democratic Party (PDP) intensified as governors distanced themselves from the consensus candidates proposed by Nyesom Wike's faction ahead of the national convention scheduled for March 29-30, 2025. Key figures, including Samuel Anyanwu and Abdulrahman Moham, emerged as consensus candidates for the positions of national chairman and national secretary, respectively.

However, senior PDP members aligned with the governors rejected this process, claiming it violated party procedures and exacerbated the ongoing leadership crisis. The governors' camp, led by Tanimu Turaki, is exploring legal options to challenge this development, viewing the proposed convention process as fundamentally flawed.

The PDP has been divided for nearly a year following leadership disagreements, with a court ruling nullifying a previous convention held in Ibadan. The party's future remains uncertain as calls for unity and reconciliation grow, with warnings that continued division could threaten its viability ahead of the 2027 general elections.
