PDP Crisis Deepens Over 2027 Zoning Formula

The crisis within the People's Democratic Party (PDP) has escalated over the 2027 zoning formula, with key party leaders, including state chairmen, former governors, National Assembly members, and former National Working Committee (NWC) members, dismissing a recent gathering in Lagos as illegal and lacking legitimacy. In a strongly worded statement, Southern PDP leaders declared that resolutions from the Lagos meeting are not binding and do not reflect the collective aspirations of the PDP family across the Southern region.

They emphasized that decisions made in secrecy and exclusion do not hold any authority. The statement was signed by party leaders from Imo, Abia, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, and Rivers states, as well as National Vice Chairman Hon Chidiebere Egwu, Minority Leader of the House of Representatives Hon Chinda, and other prominent figures.

The leaders criticized the meeting as a "Purported Meeting" and emphasized that their position is supported by several Senators and former party officials.
