PDP Zoning Formula Emerges as NEC Gets Report Today

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is set to discuss a zoning formula at its National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting today in Abuja. The current National Working Committee's tenure is set to end in December, prompting the need for a smooth transition.

The NEC had earlier approved a national elective convention to be held in Ibadan, Oyo State in November. The zoning committee, chaired by Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri, recommended maintaining the current North-South zoning arrangement for the 19 NWC positions.

The committee's report is expected to be ratified at the NEC meeting, with the South already allocated three geopolitical zones. However, there are concerns that failure to respect the zoning resolution could lead to fresh party crises, as warned by influential figures like Governor Nyesom Wike.
