PDP Faction Consults Jonathan on 2027 Presidential Bid

A faction of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) held a strategic meeting with former President Goodluck Jonathan on Friday, amid speculation regarding his potential candidacy for the 2027 presidential election. Jonathan indicated that he would require broad consultations before making a serious decision about entering the presidential race.

This meeting took place less than 48 hours after Jonathan disclosed his intentions. Meanwhile, a lawsuit was filed in the Federal High Court in Abuja by lawyer Johnmari Jideobi, seeking to declare Jonathan constitutionally ineligible to contest for the presidency again.

The suit requests the court to restrain Jonathan from presenting himself as a presidential candidate for the 2027 elections. Justice Peter Lifu has ordered that a notice be issued to the defendants, and the case is set to be heard.
