PDP Factions Prepare for Convention Amid Legal Disputes

The People's Democratic Party (PDP) is currently facing internal strife as a faction led by Nyesom Wike prepares for a national convention, despite ongoing legal challenges regarding party leadership. The faction loyal to Tanimu Turaki, who was recently elected as the national chairman, is also organizing for the convention, which is set against the backdrop of a court appeal regarding the legitimacy of the party's leadership structure.

Sources indicate that the PDP's National Executive Committee (NEC) has not convened pending the court's decision, emphasizing adherence to the rule of law. Wike's faction remains optimistic about the outcome, asserting that the law prohibits conducting party exercises that violate existing court judgments.

They argue that the Supreme Court has clarified that internal party affairs cannot be disregarded. The situation is further complicated by allegations that Wike's faction is undermining the PDP while simultaneously attempting to destabilize it.
