PDP Criticizes Diri's N100bn Stadium Project in Bayelsa

The Bayelsa State chapter of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) has criticized Governor Douye Diri's proposal for a N100 billion stadium with a capacity of 25,000. In a statement issued on Thursday by Ikaebimo Mark, the PDP urged the administration to prioritize job creation, food security, and poverty reduction over infrastructure projects.

The party expressed concerns about the economic justification for such a large expenditure on a stadium, questioning the long-term sustainability and potential job creation associated with the project. The PDP accused the Diri-led administration of neglecting pressing issues such as hunger and unemployment, instead of addressing these concerns, the administration resorted to political name-calling.

The PDP also pointed out the neglect of the Samson Siasia Stadium, which has not become a hub for sports development and economic activity despite previous claims of investment in sports. The party called for a comprehensive economic recovery program focused on wealth creation and poverty reduction.
