Bayelsa PDP Urges Governor Diri to Combat Poverty

The People's Democratic Party (PDP) in Bayelsa State has called on Governor Douye Diri to focus on addressing poverty and hunger as primary objectives in the second half of 2026. In a statement signed by Hon.

Ikaebimo Mark, the party expressed deep concern regarding the increasing cost of living and the declining purchasing power of ordinary Bayelsans, which has left families struggling to meet basic needs. Despite an increase in state revenue and enhanced federal allocations, the living conditions of citizens have worsened, with hunger and poverty becoming daily realities.

The PDP emphasized that hunger transcends political affiliations and urged the state government to invest directly in programs that create jobs, stimulate economic activity, and empower youth and women. The party also noted that despite several memoranda of understanding announced by the current administration, tangible local and foreign investments have not materialized to drive industrial growth and job creation.

The PDP reiterated its readiness to support genuine efforts to address the socio-economic challenges facing Bayelsans.
