PDP Names Mohammed Nami as 2027 Niger Governorship Candidate

Mohammed Nami has emerged as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the 2027 governorship election in Niger State, as confirmed by the Niger State PDP chairman, Aliyu Halidu. This decision came after other aspirants stepped aside and endorsed Nami's candidacy, reflecting their confidence in his ability to lead the party against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Halidu praised Nami for his character and experience, stating that the unity among the aspirants would prevent a divisive primary and allow the PDP to focus on rebuilding its structures ahead of the election. He expressed optimism about regaining voter support in Niger State, despite the party's years in opposition.

The PDP previously governed Niger State from 1999 to 2015, with Abdulkadir Kure and Babangida Aliyu serving as governors during that period. The APC has held power since then, with Umaru Mohammed Bago currently serving as governor after taking office in May 2023.
