Supreme Court Reserves Judgment on PDP Convention Appeal

The Supreme Court of Nigeria has reserved judgment on the People's Democratic Party's (PDP) appeal regarding a ruling that nullified the party's national convention held in Ibadan on November 15-16, 2022. The five-member panel, led by Justice Garba Mohammed, announced the decision on Wednesday.

The PDP is seeking to overturn a judgment from the Court of Appeal that invalidated the convention, which was conducted despite a restraining order from Justice Peter Lifu of the Federal High Court in Abuja. This order had mandated that the convention not proceed until Alhaji Sule Lamido was given the opportunity to purchase a nomination form to participate in the election for national office.

The PDP's appeal argues that the lower court lacked jurisdiction over internal party matters, a claim that the appellate court previously rejected. The PDP is now urging the Supreme Court to accept its appeal and set aside the lower court's judgment, with a decision expected to be communicated later.
