PDP Seeks Supreme Court Restraint on Wike's Convention

The People's Democratic Party (PDP) has filed a motion with the Supreme Court seeking to restrain a faction loyal to Nyesom Wike from conducting a national convention set for March 29-30, 2026. This request follows a judgment delivered on March 9, which nullified the outcomes of a previous convention held in Ibadan and upheld a Federal High Court order stating that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) should not recognize the results of that convention.

The PDP's legal team, led by Chief Chri Uch, filed the motion on March 27, arguing that proceeding with the convention would render the appeal moot. The faction's decision to hold the convention comes despite the pending appeal, which challenges the jurisdiction of the lower courts involved in the case.

Key PDP figures, including Austin Nwachukwu and Amah Abraham Nnanna, are involved in the party's response to the ongoing internal crisis as they prepare for upcoming primary elections.
