PDP's Turaki Faction Seeks Court Order Against Wike's Convention

The Kabiru Turaki-led faction of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) has approached the Supreme Court to restrain a faction loyal to Minister Nyesom Wike from conducting a national convention scheduled for March 29-30, 2026. The request follows a judgment by a three-member panel of the Court of Appeal, delivered on March 9, which nullified the outcomes of a previous convention and upheld a Federal High Court ruling that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) should not recognize the results.

The Turaki faction filed a notice of appeal on March 17, seeking to overturn the appellate court's decision. Their legal team, led by Chief Chris Uche, SAN, argues that allowing the Wike faction to proceed with the convention would render the appeal moot.

The appeal claims that the lower courts acted without jurisdiction and that the PDP violated its own laws in conducting previous conventions. The case highlights ongoing internal disputes within the PDP and the implications for its leadership structure.
