Wike's Faction Sets Conditions for PDP Reconciliation Talks

The faction led by Nyesom Wike within the People's Democratic Party (PDP) has set forth two non-negotiable conditions for reconciliation discussions as the party prepares for its national convention on March 29. According to Haruna Moham, the spokesman for Wike's group, the conditions include the necessity to hold a congress and the rejection of any existing arrangements by the national caretaker committee.

Tanimu Turaki, who leads the PDP, has emphasized the importance of the party contesting positions in the upcoming 2027 general elections. Despite ongoing discussions, Samuel Anyanwu noted that no truce has been reached yet.

Sule Lamido has called for party stakeholders to unite and support the caretaker leadership, warning that internal divisions could further weaken the party's opposition stance. The current leadership crisis has been exacerbated by recent court rulings affecting the party's structure and strategy, particularly following the 2023 presidential campaign.
