PDP Factions Initiate Peace Talks Ahead of 2026 Elections

The People's Democratic Party (PDP) factions are initiating peace talks to address internal conflicts as they prepare for the upcoming elections on March 29-30, 2026. Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, and Tanimu Turaki are spearheading the reconciliation process, which aims to unite aggrieved factions within the party.

Turaki disclosed that the reconciliation efforts commenced on Tuesday night and are expected to yield results. The PDP is exploring avenues to resolve outstanding issues to prevent further strife and provide a platform for aspirants seeking electoral office.

The party has postponed its national executive committee and caucus meetings to demonstrate good faith in these peace efforts. Both factions are urged to act in the overall interest of the party, with a commitment to field candidates in compliance with the party's constitution.

The leaders expressed confidence that reconciliation is possible and emphasized the importance of achieving peace without conflict.
