PDP to Participate in 2027 Elections Despite Crisis

Chief Tanimu Turaki, SAN, the Interim National Working Committee Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), declared that the party would endure its ongoing leadership crisis and participate in the 2027 general elections. This statement was made during a stakeholders’ meeting in Abuja, where party leaders reviewed a recent court judgment and discussed political and legal strategies.

Turaki emphasized that no individual or group could dismantle the PDP, asserting its strength and commitment to field candidates across all election categories, including the presidential and State Houses of Assembly polls. He likened the current leadership crisis to the 2016 dispute that resulted in the formation of the Ahmed Makarfi-led caretaker committee, stating that the PDP successfully navigated that period and would do so again.

Turaki noted that the challenges faced by opposition parties are often exacerbated by the ruling party's actions. Dr Babangida Aliyu, former Niger State Governor and Secretary of the PDP Board of Trustees, encouraged members to remain hopeful, stating that difficult times reveal an organization's true strength.
