2027: PDP Retains Chairmanship In North

The PDP has retained the chairmanship position in the North for the 2027 elections, following the recommendation of a zoning committee led by the Bayelsa State Governor. The committee's report is set to be submitted and ratified at the National Executive Committee meeting on Monday.

The Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, explained that the recommendation would determine the distribution of party positions and could influence which geopolitical zone may secure the PDP's presidential ticket in 2027. Zoning has historically played a significant role in the PDP's arrangement, including the presidential ticket.

The party has faced internal conflicts ahead of the 2023 elections, with some governors opposing certain candidates. While the chairmanship will remain in the North, the presidential ticket's zoning remains undisclosed.

Stakeholders are reportedly supporting former Minister Jerry Gana to emerge as the next PDP chairman.
