Peter Obi Advocates for Peaceful Elections Ahead of 2027

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), called on political actors to ensure that no Nigerian loses their life because of elections. He made this statement on Tuesday during the signing of the National Peace Accord organized by the National Peace Committee in partnership with The Kukah Centre at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre.

Obi stressed the importance of conducting issue-based campaigns ahead of the 2027 general elections, urging candidates to reflect the responsibilities of the offices they seek. He expressed sadness over the loss of lives in the recent Osun State governorship election and called for support for the families of the deceased.

Obi questioned the necessity of signing a peace accord, stating that candidates should naturally demonstrate exemplary conduct. He emphasized that personal conduct must align with the office sought, advocating for an electoral system where candidates behave appropriately.
