Peter Obi Signs Peace Accord for 2027 Elections

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2027 elections, signed the National Peace Accord on Tuesday in Abuja. This accord, organized by the National Peace Committee in partnership with The Kukah Centre, commits political actors to conduct peaceful, issue-based campaigns.

Obi stated that his signing of the accord reinforces his commitment to ensuring candidates behave in a manner befitting their desired offices. He stressed the importance of focusing on key issues such as national unity, insecurity, poverty, and the rising number of out-of-school children during the elections.

Obi urged political leaders to reject violent rhetoric and ensure their supporters do the same. He also expressed confidence in the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct free and fair elections and called on his supporters to remain peaceful and resolute as the political season begins.

Additionally, President Bola Tinubu urged political parties and candidates to adhere to the principles of the accord.
